Integral to every Subaru is freedom. The freedom that comes from knowing the finest engineers in the world have designed, debated and then perfected every inch of your Subaru. The result is a reassuring confidence that is evident in the performance, safety and retained value of every Subaru.
The sixth generation Liberty sedan shares the unique DNA sequence that only Subaru can re-create. It’s what makes every Subaru unique, and yet, the same. Superbly engineered, technically sophisticated and dynamically designed to deliver a performance that is All 4 the Driver™. Available in 2.5-litre four cylinder or 3.6-litre six cylinder petrol engines.
The Liberty is a vehicle that has been distilled down to its purest essence over six generations. Sleek. Sophisticated. Spacious.
Liberty is a term often used, yet rarely understood. Ask Subaru’s engineers the meaning of Liberty and be prepared for a long and passionate answer. Alternatively, get behind the wheel and experience it for yourself.
The allure of the Liberty lies in its ability to transcend conventional thinking. Anchored by the pure power of Subaru’s horizontally-opposed Boxer engine, the Liberty celebrates success with cutting edge innovation including our EyeSight® driver assist system on all variants. Executed with flair and distinctive styling, the Liberty has evolved over successive models to become a sedan without rival. Lively, responsive and boasting an array of Subaru technologies that others will envy.
The sixth generation of the Subaru Liberty is the result of a carefully blended heritage.
Engineers have pored over every inch to deconstruct and reconstruct the soul of this motoring icon. Gaining a fresh momentum, the Liberty’s surefooted design boasts a bold, sculptured body, dynamic side character lines and sweeping curves. Distinctive styling extends to a large electric sunroof1, Subaru’s classic hexagonal grille with chrome surround and hawk-eye headlights that integrate with the sleek bonnet lines.
The strong and powerful design also boasts advanced aerodynamic credentials. The sleek Liberty silhouette is enhanced by a low rear roof line, prominent boot lip, smooth front and rear bumpers and 18-inch alloy wheels which unite to deliver supreme aerodynamic performance.
The inspired Liberty cabin has been luxuriously extended to generiously accomodate five adults in sublime comfort.
Upfront the contemporary cabin features great visibility and a clever use of space, coupled with premium soft-touch interior trim and a sporty height adjustable driver’s seat. The new generation Liberty’s improved front and rear seat shape and a larger headrest design have both been created for improved ergonomics, comfort and safety. Increased interior space delivers more shoulder, elbow, waist, head and rear legroom, plus higher rear seats provide better visibility.
The quiet cabin atmosphere is maintained by automatic dual zone climate control air-conditioning, which delivers optimum performance via a single switch. The polished dashboard design, silver highlights, stylish seat stitching and front and rear cup holders complete the sophisticated aesthetic.
Push a button and Liberty’s split fold rear seats unlock and fold down to allow full use of the large cargo space. The wide rear cabin combines with a generous boot capacity of 493-litres, making Liberty brilliantly versatile.
Step up to the Liberty 2.5i Premium or Liberty 3.6R and enjoy leather seats4, a large electric sunroof and an eight-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support.
The impressive line-up of interactive technology enables the real time transfer of information between the car, the driver, and the road.
The Liberty 2.5i has a large centre display with a touch LCD screen featuring audio and smart phone information using easy-to-understand graphics. Access to Bluetooth®3 is standard including a premium audio system with a range of simple touch and voice commands. In addition to this the Liberty 2.5i Premium offers a new level of on-board infotainment with the LCD touch screen displaying satellite navigation, vehicle information and Pandora® compatibility, while the Liberty 3.6R comes alive with a harman kardon® 12-speaker sound system including subwoofer and custom acoustics.
The leather wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel evokes a sense of true control and lets the driver directly interact with the vehicle’s satellite navigation2, audio, Bluetooth®3, SI-Drive and adaptive cruise control.
Featuring the latest in proactive safety with EyeSight® available on all Liberty models. Plus selected variants see the addition of blind spot monitors, lane change assist and rear cross traffic alert which delivers an audio warning when reversing to warn of cross traffic. Auto dimming subdues the rear view mirror brightness automatically when headlights fill the view and conversely, the driver’s own high beam lights turn off automatically for oncoming traffic. Talk about super vision.
An intoxicating formula.
The heart and soul of the Liberty is Subaru’s unsurpassed horizontally-opposed Boxer engine which is designed to sit lower and flatter in the engine bay than traditional engines. Due to this unique configuration the engine delivers less noise and vibration to the cabin, while the lowered centre of gravity improves stability, cornering and traction with the road. Coupled with the Boxer engine is Subaru’s iconic Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive which simultaneously drives power to all four wheels for superior grip and traction. Also due to its low height, the engine is driven downwards and under the floor of the cabin in the event of a severe frontal collision to reduce the risk of injury to occupants. Liberty offers a choice of lively and responsive petrol engines.
Liberty’s 2.5-litre four cylinder, horizontally-opposed naturally aspirated Boxer engine which has been calibrated to deliver 129kW at 5800rpm and mid to low range torque of 235Nm at 4000rpm.
The 3.6-litre six cylinder engine mated to Subaru’s LineartronicTM Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), produces an impressive 191kW at 6000rpm and 350Nm of torque at 4400rpm. The CVT has been optimised to couple seamlessly with the 3.6-litre engine for responsive acceleration and improved drivability.
Meanwhile the Automatic Stop-Start system on vehicles fitted with the 2.5-litre engine coupled with the Lineartronic™ CVT and a lighter body weight deliver impressive environmental credentials. As a result Liberty can boast exceptional fuel economy, achieving 7.3-litre/100km for the 2.5-litre engine and 9.9-litre/100km for the 3.6-litre engine5.
Liberty’s nimble performance is further enhanced by Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) on all model variants, which offers a selection of driving modes. Choose from Intelligent (I) mode for everyday driving or Sport (S) mode for enhanced acceleration and all-round sporty performance. The Liberty 3.6R sees the addition of Sport Sharp (S#) mode for a truly thrilling drive.
All of the wheels, all of the time.
The sign of a true performer is good balance. And when it comes to driving a Subaru, superior balance equals superior vehicle control. That’s why Subaru has built its reputation on its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (SAWD) system and a symmetrical drivetrain that delivers an innate sense of balance from the ground up.
SAWD delivers engine power to all four wheels simultaneously. Having power distributed across all four wheels, rather than two on conventional vehicles, gives you twice the grip capacity. So under acceleration there’s more grip for cornering and more capacity to keep on track through the corners. Ultimately, having the driving force spread across all four wheels means greater control and confidence.
Driver enjoyment is delivered with Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) which regulates key engine functions to suit your driving style. Working in unison with the Boxer engine, SI-Drive manages and fine-tunes the engine’s power characteristics to offer optimum drivability and a smooth, responsive power delivery across the engine’s operating range.
Safety starts with a chassis and a body frame reinforced to increase frontal, side and rear crash safety. The shock absorbing bonnet design and designated crumple zones direct impact energy away from the reinforced passenger safety cell, while seven airbags - including dual front, side, curtain and driver’s knee airbags help protect occupants. Front seats have Emergency Locking Retractors (ELR) and pre-tensioners, and rear seats have Automatic Emergency Locking Retractors (A/ELR). The result is a maximum five-star ANCAP6 crashworthiness rating.
Safety designed to help prevent loss of control is delivered via improved Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) which constantly monitors vehicle movement, engaging a range of technologies when required. With precision timing the VDC controls the Antilock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), TCS Limited Slip Device, Brake Override System (BOS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA).
Intelligent sensors activate Liberty’s active torque vectoring, to automatically control braking and torque for improved cornering and more precise steering response. While an excellent, ultra wide-angle reversing camera provides superior rear field of vision.
EyeSight® driver assist system monitors the road ahead using three-dimensional images captured by cameras mounted at the top of the windscreen. EyeSight® provides audible and visual warnings to prompt the driver to take action in potentially dangerous situations and will also apply automatic braking intervention, when necessary, to help avoid or reduce the severity of a detected frontal collision.
They say that to be forewarned, is to be forearmed. That’s the philosophy behind the EyeSight® driver assist system offering a superior level of reassurance, with both field-of-vision and distance improved around 40 per cent7.
Forming part of Subaru’s Vision Assist technology EyeSight® is a second pair of eyes that monitor the road ahead and recognise potentially dangerous driving situations. Using three-dimensional images captured by cameras mounted at the top of the windscreen, EyeSight® provides audible and visual warnings to prompt the driver to take action. EyeSight® will also apply automatic braking intervention, when necessary, to help avoid or reduce the severity of a detected frontal collision.
New features include enhanced stereo camera performance and images at all speeds and better performance in poor weather conditions7.
